Bush War | The Road to Cuito Cuanavale

Angolan, Cuban, and Soviet officers present medals for "The Defense of Cuito Cuanavale
For almost 15 years, South Africa was involved in a civil war in Angola - The so-called Bush War on behalf of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola faction. The climax of the conflict portrayed in this history was the battle of Cuito Cuanavale, the largest military engagement on African soil since World War II.
It is always interesting to read the perspectives on the opposing forces, especially when written by other ranks. These were very junior leader group of Russian advisers, who write about their motivation and experiences of their service in Angola. Like all soldiers they report on their circumstances, moan about logistics and report on their small area of operations, without ever seeing the big picture. Their pride and strong belief in their cause shine though. These are the universal service man. - Anonymous reviewer.
